Morgan Howell

Morgan Howell is a British artist, living and working in St Albans, Hertfordshire just outside London.

He is best known for his giant (SuperSize) 3D facsimiles of classic 7” singles.
Morgan recently released his first ever silkscreen prints. They were printed by world-leading printmakers and publishers Coriander Studio who work with the Godfather of Pop Art Sir Peter Blake, Ian Davenport and Damien Hirst amongst many others. Morgan decided to release the silkscreens due to public demand for certain of his sold out original supersize paintings and artist’s editions. The Stones and Bowie artworks are the first in a series of releases marking classic singles with Morgan personally overseeing production at Coriander Studio’s famous HQ in South West London.

He says: “My supersize paintings and editions of songs like Brown Sugar and Rebel Rebel sold out long ago and I wanted to make such titles available to more people as there was such demand.

“They are markedly different to my usual style and I love them. They are quite spectacular and follow in the pop art silkscreen tradition. I am honoured to be working with such a renowned studio like Coriander and they have done a wonderful job bringing my art to life in a different form and I would like to thank them for their hard work.”

Morgan Howell Biography

Morgan’s hand-painted works take into account every crease, every tear, every imperfection – producing a one-off, truly unique artwork, almost identical to the owner’s original 45, but blown up, supersize and three-dimensional, with the spindle in the centre, as if the record is ready to play.

This completely original approach has resulted in Howell attracting a cult following amongst art collectors and musicians alike – with paintings commissioned by Neil Diamond, Jude Law, Edgar Wright, Lord Lloyd-Webber and Ian Brown, and major music labels selecting the artist’s work for display in their headquarters.

Morgan’s father, Ralph, was also an artist and Morgan remembers as a child  helping his father sell his paintings on a stall in St Albans traditional street market.

As a self-confessed vinyl addict and music lover growing up in the 70s and 80s, it is perhaps unsurprising that Morgan’s art has gravitated towards the iconic images of treasured discs.

Morgan has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, curated by Grayson Perry and a committee of fellow Royal Academians, and also at the Q Awards, one of the most hedonistic dates on the rock calendarHe has permanent exhibits at BBC Radio 2 and The Barbican Centre, London.
